Catholic Campaign for Human Development

Overview of CCHD

    • The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the domestic anti-poverty, social justice program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops.
    • Its mission is to address the root causes of poverty in America through community-based, self-help organizations and through education about poverty.
    • Founded in 1969, CCHD seeks to empower those living in poverty and to act on the principles of solidarity and the option for the poor that are at the heart of Catholic social teaching.

CCHD in the Diocese of St. Cloud

    • Kathy Langer, Director of Social Concerns for Catholic Charities, also serves as the diocesan director for Catholic Campaign for Human Development in the Diocese of St. Cloud.
    • Educational presentations on CCHD for parishes and social ministry committees are available through the Office for Social Concerns.
    • CCHD community organizing and economic development grants are available to local groups who meet certain requirements.
    • Parishes in the St. Cloud Diocese take up the annual collection to support the work of CCHD each November on the weekend before Thanksgiving. 75% of the funds raised go to the national work of CCHD, and 25% of the funds remain in the local diocese to support community-based projects.
    • Resources on CCHD are sent to each parish in advance of the national collection in November. Contact the Social Concerns office for more information.
