VOLUNTEERING WITH CATHOLIC CHARITIES

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to be Catholic to volunteer?

No! Catholic Charities' slogan is "Providing Help. Creating Hope. Serving all faiths." Not only does Catholic Charities provide services to people of faiths, but welcomes employees, volunteers, and interns of all faiths as well.

2. I want to help, but I don't know if I have time. Are there volunteer opportunities that will fit my busy schedule?

Yes! Because Catholic Charities operates over 40 programs of human services, we are able to provide a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. Sometimes volunteers are needed for one-time events such as our annual Mardi Gras Benefit that takes place one day each February. We also offer many opportunities for volunteers to work with Catholic Charities' clients on an ongoing basis. Depending on the program and/or project, volunteers are needed during day and evening hours as well as on both weekdays and weekends. Whatever your schedule, we can find an opportunity that's right for you.

3. So, what's in it for me?

Volunteering your time to help others in your community provides a variety of benefits. These include opportunities to:

  • Meet new people
  • Socialize with others in the community who share your interests and desire to make a difference
  • Utilize existing skills or learn new ones
  • Gain a new perspective
  • Obtain experience for future employment
  • Fulfill service hour requirements for a class or program
  • Gain a sense of satisfaction, knowing that you've been a part of accomplishing something meaningful and worthwhile

4. Do volunteers have to be a certain age?

Because of the variety of opportunities available at Catholic Charities, we are able to accommodate volunteers of many ages and experience levels. Depending on the task, volunteers under 18 may need to be accompanied by an adult volunteer. Contact the Staff Recruiting and Volunteer Coordinator for information on specific volunteer opportunities.

5. Does Catholic Charities have opportunities available for groups to volunteer?

Not every Catholic Charities program can accommodate a large number of volunteers at one time, but some certainly welcome groups. Contact the Staff Recruiting and Volunteer Coordinator to learn about our current volunteer opportunities for groups.
