La Cruz Community:La Cruz is a housing community managed by Catholic Charities. Located on the south side of St. Cloud, near St. Cloud State University, this 104-unit complex offers affordable renting for people with low incomes. The residents of La Cruz come from many diverse ethnic backgrounds and include many families with young children, including recent immigrants to the United States. |
Primary Duties: |
La Cruz Community Center offers after school programming to enhance academics and social interactions for the children living within the La Cruz Community. Currently, 30-35 students attend the Academic Assistance Program daily (Monday-Friday). Children attend during assigned times that correspond with their grad level in school (K-6th grade attend 2:30pm - 4:30pm; 7th-8th grad attend 3:00pm - 5:00pm and 9th - 12th grade attend 4:00pm - 7:00pm). During this time, students are able to study, request assistance on academics/homework or read in our library. The La Cruz Academic Assistance program partners with local colleges to provide approximately 10-15 volunteers daily to assist children with the above tasks. |

Volunteers are needed: Monday through Thursday: 2:30 - 7:00 Fridays: 2:30 - 9:00 Requires a minimum commitment of 2 hours time at a time. |

1) Previous experience with youth 2) Knowledge of techniques to redirect a youth's nonconforming behavior 3) Conflict resolutions skills 4) Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse ethnic population 5) Need to maintain confidentiality |
