Helping people with developmental disabilities gain independent-living skills

Catholic Charities Sils / Waivered In-Home Services for Persons with Developmental Disabilities provides residential and community-based teaching and assistance for people with developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injury within their own homes or apartments, or in a foster home setting. Sils / Waivered In-Home Services is a positive alternative that helps with the development and maintenance of personal care and daily living skills needed by disabled persons to remain independent and self-sufficient.
Collaborative, team approach to self-realization and direction
The Sils / Waivered In-Home Services for Persons with Developmental Disabilities program begins with a 45-day assessment by a professional staff of QMRPs (Qualified Mental Retardation Professionals) and an Interdisciplinary Team which sets goals and objectives based upon the person's strengths and areas that could realize some improvement. Personalized plans are developed to meet the unique needs of each individual served. Clients also receive the benefits of our staff's specialized training in autism and other developmental disabilities and their openness to networking with other agencies to provide a variety of specialized services such as assisted technology, essential lifestyle plans, and behavioral plans.

Skills Trainers meet with their clients in their homes on a regular basis and assists them with increasing their independent living skills which include:
- Meal planning and preparation
- Shopping and money-management
- Grooming and hygiene
- Home-living skills
- Resource access
- Utilization of transportation
- Social and recreational skills

Referrals
People eligible for Sils / Waivered In-Home Services for Persons with Developmental Disabilities
through Catholic Charities must be referred by their county social service office.
