Offering community-based education with therapeutic groups, skills training, family therapy

Catholic Charities Child and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Day Treatment is a community-based educational alternative offering academic, therapeutic, and skills training to at-risk youth in grades 1 - 12. Students/clients from Central Minnesota who are experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties after traditional educational or therapeutic interventions have been unsuccessful may access this program by a multidisciplinary team. Youth returning from a partial hospital, inpatient hospital, or residential setting but needing help transitioning to a less restrictive environment are often referred to our Child and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Day Treatment.

The decision to place a child into the program depends upon his/her age, geographic location, resident school district, current openings, and other variables that may help to ensure a successful Day Treatment experience. • Unique program available to pre-school children: Young Learners Program, Intensive Children's Outpatient Day Treatment, a cooperative program between District 742 Community Schools and Catholic Charities.

Strengths of this innovative educational collaboration

Our Child and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Day Treatment seeks to help students with emotional and behavioral disorders function more effectively in their homes, schools, and communities. Academic programming for students is offered through District #742 Community Schools in St. Cloud. Therapeutic services may consist of experiential therapeutic approaches, including Health Realization/Resiliency, and Restorative Justice principles. Coping, social, independent living skills, and recreational therapy are woven throughout program activities as designated in the child's Individual Treatment Plan.

Child and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Day Treatment is designed to address social development and individual academic needs. The program is based on an educational model which utilizes immediate feedback and teaching opportunities to strengthen competency in academic and interpersonal areas. Our multiple course offerings provide students / clients with opportunities to develop the academic and interpersonal skills necessary to meet varied classroom expectations and cope with the demands of community settings.

Professional staff

A staff of human service professionals administers our program. Student / staff ratios are low with approximately eight students / clients comprising a group which is facilitated by two adults. Clinical services are provided by a team that includes a Program Manager, Clinical Supervisor, Program Supervisor, EBD Classroom Teachers, Paraprofessional Teaching Assistants, Mental Health Practitioners, Therapists, and Skills Counselors. The Individualized Treatment Plan developed for each student / client includes the utilization of specialized clinical services to meet the child's treatment needs through individual, group, and family services, and specialized educational programming. On-going evaluation continues throughout the time the student/client is enrolled in the program.

Child and family-focused clinical and educational services

Families can have confidence in our commitment to their child and our ability to deliver top-notch clinical and educational services. Group therapy occurs daily with students / clients, while family and individual services are offered on a weekly basis. Our family services component offers ongoing family therapy and family skills building. This multifaceted approach helps to ensure that all aspects of the child's life are addressed.

Referrals

When a student / client is identified as needing Child and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Day Treatment, the referring school district and county develop a service plan and identify funding resources needed to implement the service plan. Please note that if there is no county involvement, the referral may be a school-only referral. An intake staffing will be scheduled with the Program Supervisor, county social worker (if designated), school personnel, and the child and his / her family. A Diagnostic Assessment, as well as a Functional Assessment need to be completed prior to intake. A date will be set for services to begin, pending signed service agreements from the school and county (if designated), and performance levels for reintegration will be established. If a student / client is open-enrolled, the school of the current enrollment makes the referral to Catholic Charities Child and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Day Treatment.
