Foster Grandparent is Volunteer of the Month

Nominated by Twin Lakes Elementary principal Dan Collins. Marlys has been a volunteer with the Central MN Foster Grandparent Program for 3 years. Grandma Marlys is an outstanding volunteer who makes every child that she serves with feel special and important.

Grandma Marlys has been serving her time in Jill Jopp’s second grade classroom. With the help of her grandson and teacher Jill Jopp, Marlys was connected virtually to the classroom allowing her to continue to volunteer through the ebbs and flows of the Covid-19 pandemic.

When Grandma Marlys recently became a widow, she decided she did not want any time off as she needed “her” kids. They have helped her feel needed and they made homemade cards for her and promised to be her sunshine when she needed it.
