Child & Adolescent Mental Health Undergraduate Level Internship

    Catholic Charities IOP/Day Treatment Program is a year-round collaborative effort between ISD#728 and Catholic Charities of St. Cloud Day Services. This is a school-based co-located program providing intensive therapeutic services to children who are identified as meeting medical necessity for this level of care based on their mental health diagnosis and an effort to maintain them within their community setting. Our clients range in age from 6 through 18 years of age and carry mental health diagnoses that significantly impair their functioning across settings.


    Services provided include: 


    Group psychotherapy, individual psychotherapy, group skills training (social skills, self-regulation, therapeutic skills, leisure, recreation/large motor), in-home family psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and transition services.

  • Responsibilities

    Interns will work closely with the clinical team members and graduate-level interns on a variety of tasks, including program coordination with the services listed above. Undergraduate interns will assist with supporting and supervising clients in the therapy program and providing general assistance to clinicians where needed. Undergraduate-level interns will gain exposure to group psychotherapy, clinical skills groups, and social skills for various age groups and may assist in planning/preparing curriculum for groups. Undergraduate interns assist in planning and preparing for groups (including curriculum planning) and will also administer assessments/ inventories. Clinical documentation may include assisting with daily progress notes and weekly goal reviews. Interns will become familiar with clinical documentation, including treatment plans and diagnostic reports.


    The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skill sets:


    • Experience providing structured mental health programming for elementary through high school ages.
    • Experience working with a diverse group of children with complex mental health needs.

Communications & Public Relations

    The Communications/Media Relations Intern will be part of the Organizational Advancement team at Catholic Charities. The Organizational Advancement office oversees the fundraising and communications activities of Catholic Charities. The Communications/Media Relations Intern is responsible for assisting Communications team with conceptualizing, writing, designing, creating and distributing communication, development and special event materials.

     

    The Intern will have frequent public contact by telephone, in person and in writing. Some contact is made with donors, volunteers, media representatives, graphic designers, printers, potential referral sources and the public at large. This position will represent Catholic Charities in a wide variety of situations that will require tact and diplomacy.


    This position will handle some projects independently and work with intermittent supervision. The job requires the ability to write clearly and creatively. It requires excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong computer skills. The position will work with a variety of people both within and outside the organization. An energetic, self-starter is required.

  • Activities

    Works with staff to plan, prepare, write and design Catholic Charities publications and newsletters, including biweekly employee newsletters, donor newsletters, Clergy News & Views, press releases, letters, etc.


    Works with program staff to develop and implement marketing and publicity materials and campaigns for program services.


    Take and organize a central file of photographs.

    Assist with media relations and publicity campaigns.


    Works with Communications team to plan and execute special events including:

    • Mardi Gras
    • Benefit Breakfast
    • Lake Wobegon Regional Trail Ride

    Each event involves one or more of the following:

    • Creating an atmosphere appropriate to the event

Community Support Program For Counseling For Mentally Ill Population

    The Community Support Program is responsible for the provision of services to adults who have experienced long-term mental health problems as defined by the Comprehensive Mental Health Act of 1987. These mental health problems of the clients have had a serious negative impact on their ability to function independently within the community. 


    The Hope CSP intern will have considerable contact with agency staff and regular contact with clients, other organizations and community agencies, by telephone, in person and in writing and therefore requires good written and verbal communication skills. This position will handle some responsibilities independently and will work with supervision on others. There will be exposure to a variety of programming in the area of Adult Mental Health and community resources within this population.

    Responsibilities of the Hope CSP Mental Health Practitioner including but not limited to:

    The Day treatment program has components for children in grades 1-12: Academic Services and Therapeutic Services. Academic Services are provided in cooperation with St. Cloud District 742 Community Schools and are individually designed academic programs to meet the differing needs of students. The clinical services include individual, family counseling and group mental health and group skills. The Day Treatment intern assists in carrying out the clinical treatment program outlined by the mental health professional in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.

All interns will have opportunities to participate in treatment plan reviews/progress meetings and diagnostic assessments with families. Academic progress meetings may also be attended when available. Graduate-level interns will administer assessments/inventories and complete daily progress/billing notes, participate in weekly treatment goal reviews and biweekly team meetings. Interns will gain experience writing treatment plans and other clinical documents requiring formulation of clinical impression.

    • Facilitation of therapy groups, individual therapy and skills training using evidence-based curriculum and activities.

  • Responsibilities

    Graduate-Level interns facilitate/co-facilitate group psychotherapy, individual psychotherapy, clinical skills groups and social skills groups for various age groups. Interns carry a small caseload of clients and provide individual therapy on a weekly basis and crisis intervention as needed. Interns may have the option to engage with client families who are participating with in-home family therapy services through the program, but also will have the opportunity to interact with families and the treatment/academic teams during individual treatment plan reviews/progress updates, and during initial and annual diagnostic interviews/assessments. Graduate-level interns will also conduct diagnostic interviews, administer assessments/inventories and complete written daily, weekly and quarterly clinical updates, including daily progress notes, weekly goal reviews, and quarterly treatment plan updates along with the development of initial treatment plans for new clients. Interns may also assist in writing portions of the comprehensive diagnostic assessments. 


    Clinical team meetings occur bi-weekly with all clinical team members attending. Interns are also expected to attend these meetings. Individual and dyadic supervision occur weekly for all staff members and interns.

Services For Homeless Youth Intern

  • Program: Catholic Charities Services for Homeless Youth

    Are you looking for an opportunity to work directly with clients in the St Cloud community? Catholic Charities Senior Dining is looking to share an opportunity with you. 


    This position is in the Senior Dining Department which is comprised of 65 staff. Catholic Charities Senior Dining provides healthy, nutritious meals to persons aged 60 and over, helping seniors get well and stay well. Meals are intended for seniors 60 or older with a special emphasis on individuals who are low income (at or below the poverty line), in need of nutritional support, and have difficulty preparing or shopping for their own meals.

    • Assist seniors in reviewing the SNAP application and answer any questions a client may have.


    • Follow-up on referrals.


    • Items assigned by SNAP Coordinator.
